Code of Conduct
1. POLICY
1.01
Fun Adventure is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, inclusive, healthy, and positive environment for all employees, campers, volunteers, families, and visitors. All individuals representing Fun Adventure must conduct themselves professionally and in a manner that protects the rights, safety, dignity, and well-being of children and adults, while upholding the integrity and reputation of Fun Adventure.
1.02
This Code of Conduct applies to all activities carried out on behalf of Fun Adventure, including on-site and off-site programs, field trips, transportation, events, administrative work, remote communications, and any interaction connected to Fun Adventure.
1.03
This Code strictly prohibits behaviour that is unsafe, illegal, abusive, harassing, discriminatory, violent, unethical, or otherwise inconsistent with the expectations outlined in this document.
1.04
Serious violations—including but not limited to violence, threats, harassment, theft, impairment while working, unsafe conduct, misuse of confidential information, misuse of technology, smoking or vaping in prohibited areas, unauthorized drug or alcohol use, or possession of weapons—may result in immediate termination, removal from the workplace, or expulsion from the program, as applicable.
2. PURPOSE
2.01
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to:
- Establish clear expectations for professional, ethical, and respectful behaviour
- Ensure a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for campers, staff, and families
- Provide guidance on communication standards, technology use, and confidentiality
- Protect the reputation, property, systems, and operations of Fun Adventure
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Provide a consistent behavioural framework for employees, campers, and parents/guardians
3. SCOPE
3.01
This Code applies to all individuals working on behalf of Fun Adventure, including full-time, part-time, seasonal, temporary, contract, student, volunteer, intern staff, and independent contractors.
3.02
Sections related to safety, conduct, technology use, smoking/vaping, and property use also apply to campers, parents, guardians, and visitors while participating in or attending Fun Adventure programs.
4. RESPONSIBILITIES
4.01 Employee Responsibilities
All employees and representatives must:
- Act professionally, ethically, and respectfully at all times
- Perform duties competently and follow all policies and procedures
- Maintain punctual and reliable attendance
- Treat campers, families, coworkers, and visitors with courtesy and respect
- Refrain from threatening, inappropriate, abusive, or discriminatory behaviour
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate attire
- Use Fun Adventure property, vehicles, and technology responsibly
- Protect confidential, personal, and proprietary information
- Remain fit for work and free from impairment
- Follow all rules related to technology, social media, cell phone use, smoking/vaping, alcohol, and drugs
- Promptly report concerns, safety issues, or violations
4.02 Management Responsibilities
Supervisors and managers must:
- Enforce this Code fairly and consistently
- Address concerns or violations promptly
- Investigate complaints related to misconduct, safety issues, or policy breaches
- Support employees requiring accommodation for medical or personal reasons within operational capacity
- Ensure staff understand behavioural, safety, and technology expectations
4.03 Operations / IT Responsibilities (or Designate)
- Monitor and manage the use of company email, devices, internet, and digital systems as permitted by law
- Protect system security, passwords, and access controls
- Investigate suspected misuse of electronic systems
- Ensure compliance with privacy and data protection requirements
5. DEFINITIONS
- Alcohol – Any beverage or substance containing ethyl alcohol
- Illicit Drugs – Substances illegal under Canadian law
- Recreational Cannabis – Cannabis used without medical authorization
- Prescribed Medication – Medication legally prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional
- Impairment – Any condition affecting safe and competent job performance
- Fit for Work – Physically, mentally, and emotionally able to perform duties safely
- Computer Resources – All Fun Adventure-owned or managed technology and systems
- Social Media – Any platform used to create or share content publicly
- Smoking / Vaping – Use of tobacco, cannabis, or electronic vapor devices
- Enclosed Workplace – Any indoor or covered space used for Fun Adventure activities
6. STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES
6.01 Professional Conduct
Employees must:
- Follow all policies, safety rules, and instructions
- Perform duties to expected standards
- Communicate respectfully and professionally
- Avoid abusive, discriminatory, threatening, or harassing behaviour
- Avoid horseplay, intimidation, or unsafe actions
- Follow dress code requirements
- Avoid theft, falsification of records, insubordination, sleeping on duty, or unsafe driving
Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
6.02 Technology, Email, and Internet Use
Employees must:
- Use Fun Adventure technology for legitimate business purposes only
- Understand that communications on company systems are company property
- Have no expectation of privacy when using company systems
- Avoid unauthorized software or unsafe content
- Protect passwords and system access
- Follow all data security measures
6.03 Social Media Use
Employees must:
- Not use personal social media during work hours
- Not post confidential, internal, or camper-related information
- Not publicly represent Fun Adventure without authorization
- Avoid posting negative, harmful, or unprofessional content about Fun Adventure, its staff, campers, or families
- Use respectful and professional language at all times
If referencing employment, employees must include:
“The views expressed are my own and do not represent Fun Adventure.”
6.04 Cell Phone Use
- Handheld devices may not be used while driving
- Calls must be professional and discreet
- Personal use limited to emergencies or official breaks
6.05 Alcohol, Drugs, and Impairment
Employees must not:
- Report to work impaired
- Possess, use, distribute, or sell alcohol, illicit drugs, or recreational cannabis during work hours or on Fun Adventure property
- Use recreational cannabis before or during work
- Perform duties while impaired by medication
Employees must disclose prescribed medication that may cause impairment.
Managers must remove impaired individuals from duty immediately.
6.06 Smoking and Vaping
- Smoking and vaping are prohibited in all enclosed workplaces, vehicles, program areas, and event locations
- Use is permitted only in designated areas during official breaks
- Recreational cannabis use is not permitted during work hours or programs
6.07 Confidentiality and Privacy
Employees must protect all confidential information, including camper records, medical information, family data, staff records, and business information, in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable privacy laws.
6.08 Duty to Protect Children
All employees and volunteers have a legal and ethical duty to protect children. Any suspicion of abuse, neglect, or risk of harm must be reported immediately in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (Ontario).
6.09 Accessibility and Accommodation
Fun Adventure is committed to treating all individuals with dignity and respect and to complying with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Fun Adventure will consider reasonable accommodation requests on an individual basis. However, due to program structure, group-based activities, staffing ratios, and safety considerations, Fun Adventure does not provide one-on-one support, medical care, or specialized supervision.
Enrollment is dependent on Fun Adventure’s ability to safely meet a camper’s needs within a group camp environment. Where a child requires support beyond what Fun Adventure can reasonably and safely provide, enrollment may be declined or discontinued in the interest of the child’s safety, the safety of other campers, and staff.
Parents and guardians are required to fully disclose all relevant medical, behavioural, developmental, or support needs during registration. Failure to disclose may result in removal from the program without refund.
Fun Adventure reserves the right to determine, acting reasonably and in good faith, whether accommodation can be provided without undue hardship.
6.10 Reporting and Investigation
Employees must promptly report:
- Code of Conduct violations
- Safety hazards or incidents
- Suspected impairment
- Harassment, discrimination, or violence
- Misuse of technology or confidential information
Fun Adventure may investigate concerns using lawful and appropriate methods.
6.11 Disciplinary Action
Disciplinary measures may include:
- Verbal warning
- Written warning
- Suspension
- Removal from the workplace
- Termination
Serious or repeated violations may result in immediate termination.
7. CAMPER AND PARENT / GUARDIAN CONDUCT
7.01
Campers and parents/guardians must contribute to a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
7.02
All interactions with staff, volunteers, and other families must remain courteous and respectful.
7.03 Unacceptable Behaviour Includes
- Yelling, swearing, or aggressive language
- Threats, intimidation, or harassment
- Discriminatory or derogatory remarks
- Disruptive behaviour that compromises safety
- Refusal to follow staff instructions
- Inappropriate communication by phone, email, text, or social media
7.04 Behaviour Management
Staff will remain calm and professional at all times. Where necessary, Fun Adventure may:
- Redirect behaviour
- Contact a parent or guardian
- Request early pickup
- Implement behaviour plans
- Temporarily or permanently remove a camper
7.05 Parent / Guardian Misconduct
If a parent or guardian behaves abusively or disruptively:
- Communication may be limited or redirected
- The individual may be asked to leave the premises
- Camper enrollment may be terminated without refund
Fun Adventure reserves the right to refuse service to any family whose conduct compromises safety, respect, or program integrity.
8. LEGAL AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
Fun Adventure operates in accordance with applicable laws, including but not limited to:
- Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
- Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including Bills 168 and 132
- Employment Standards Act, 2000 (Ontario)
- Child, Youth and Family Services Act (Ontario)
- Ontario Human Rights Code
- Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
- Smoke-Free Ontario Act
